Ted Chiang’s Stories of Your Life and Others.

Ted Chiang’s science fiction short stories can make you uncomfortably aware of how far society has to go, cry for an hour (which I did after one particular story), see reality differently, and challenge your convictions all while explaining the functions and beauty of an equation or mechanism. That’s what you get when a technical writer with a degree in computer science turns to fiction. This is one of the best collections of short stories I have ever read. He also includes story notes at the end to provide insight on his inspiration for each story, adding another layer of depth to his profound stories.

Also! Story of Your Life (one of the short stories included) is being made into a movie called Arrival.
